About the product

Venini is a long-established manufacturer of Venetian glasses, one of Italy's most traditional crafts. For more than 100 years since its founding on the island of Murano in 1921, the company has collaborated with a variety of artists and architects, combining traditional hand-blown glass techniques with modern design. All original works are handmade. As a result, each finish is slightly different. Benigni's pieces have been highly acclaimed internationally and have been exhibited at museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Triennale Design Museum in Milan, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. “Contrast” is a work by Michela Cattai, a Venetian glass artist who has held solo exhibitions in Japan. It was born from the process of exploring the potential of glass. Different textures are combined on one surface to highlight their contrasting effects. It has a smooth, matte surface created using the traditional hand-blowing technique of holding a tube in your hand and blowing glass in the air, and a “cotisso” (glass melted in a furnace that shines like a jewel) with sharp edges. Contrast with the glass fragments that remained and hardened. This contrast, combined with the imposing size intended by the design, gives it a distinct identity, making it a one-of-a-kind piece. With an organic design that shows the skillful creative process and skill of skilled craftsmen, this piece appears to come to life in glass. A powerful beauty is expressed through special cold work applied to the abstract, moving, curvilinear forms that are characteristic of Mr. Kattai's designs. *This product is handmade by craftsmen on Murano Island, Venice, so each item is unique.
